...And does it show in your work?
I was recently asked about the 'experience' I create for the amazing humans that I get to work with. As touched on in previous blogs, I feel passionately that how you are remembered and what people say about you (when you are not in the room) is the living, breathing definition of your brand. That experience is borne entirely from how you make people feel in the moment.
I was also asked to make a list of words that describe the experience I aspire to create. The list included words such as:
Liberated
Brave
Curious
Playful
Capable
Understood
Safe
Inspired
Victorious
... Content
I could keep going, but I hope you get a feel for the space I aim to create for my audience. Here's a bigger question:
How much do you love what you do?
Every action you take, every effort you make to create this 'experience' will come from what you bring to the party. And it is unrealistic for you to bring 'magic' if, you yourself, are not feeling magical.
Deep reflection time - how much do you love what you do? If the answer is genuinely "So, so much!" - well, that's great. How is that love translated in your actions, impact, energy, words and deeds? Do people immediately pick up on that passion when they watch, hear, read what you do (from you)?
The intimacy of a good podcast
I recently guested on Shelley Röstlund's Brand Compass podcast, where we opened up on what we think makes a great podcast. Shelley and I are united in our belief that you can immediately sense the passion a host has for their show, and their message.
If (like most people) you listen to podcasts alone, you are having a 1-2-1 moment with that host and their guest(s). It is the most intimate example of the point I make above - how they make you feel in the moment. Your opinion of show's success therefore depends on the feelings you get from that experience, and that opinion is one you will be quick to share if asked "what's good to listen to atm?"
Get to the point
Loving what you do, week-in week-out as a podcast host but even more intensely as a business owner or a solopreneur (when it is 'all on you') is easier when you are deeply connected to your answers to the following two questions:
What it is you REALLY want (from your business / podcast etc...)?
What you are prepared to do, to make that happen?
When was the last time you checked in on these questions? If you'd like to do so in a 'liberating, curious, playful, safe etc...' space, please do get in touch.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
