If you’ve been in business long enough, you’ll know that growth isn’t just about strategy, it’s about mindset.
The biggest leaps often come not from new tools or marketing tricks, but from a deeper clarity about what you actually want, why you want it, and what’s been holding you back from going after it with conviction. That’s where bravery comes in.
Clarity and courage are two sides of the same coin, and they form the foundation of a more joyful, sustainable, and successful business.
Why clarity matters more than confidence
Many business owners and senior leaders chase confidence, thinking it’s the fuel for action. But confidence is often the result, not the start. Clarity, on the other hand, gives direction.
When you know what truly matters to you (not just what you think you should be doing), it becomes easier to prioritise, to say no, and to stay focused. Research from Harvard Business Review shows that leaders with a strong sense of purpose (i.e., clarity around their 'why') make better decisions, build stronger teams, and foster more resilient businesses.
The courage to call yourself out
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: we all have blind spots.
Some are rooted in perfectionism. Others in old stories about not being ready, not being good enough, or not having enough time. Sound familiar?
These invisible barriers don’t always shout. Often, they whisper in the background: “Maybe next quarter,” or “Now’s not the right time.” But they add up. And unless we’re brave enough to call them out, they shape the kind of business (and life) we build.
That’s why developing what Dr Brené Brown calls “clarity over comfort” is vital. It’s easier to coast in ambiguity than to confront what’s really going on. But clarity invites bravery. And bravery unlocks growth.
