When did you last upgrade?

What operating system are you currently running?

I'm not talking about your phone or laptop, I'm reflecting on your own internal software upgrade.

At the Professional Speaking Association Spring Conference earlier this month I heard the brilliant Andrew Bryant suggest that he was running V5.1 of his own software; 5.1 being a riff on his own age (51).

The premise is that every year you get to upgrade your viewpoint on life, business, and you.

A stack of scrabble tiles that spell 'upgrade'. Next to that is text that reads "What does the next iteration of you look like? Upgrade yourself and your dreams". It invites the question "when did you last upgrade?"

When did you last upgrade?

It's a novel outlook on an easily overlooked opportunity that we have to improve our own vision, direction and meaning... our 'why' as it were.

The really good software platforms often have open forums for users to suggest the updates they want the companies to incorporate. At the recent Canva Create launch, they proudly claimed that 50+ "community wishes" had been granted – from simple fixes to ground-breaking new tech: their audience's dreams were turned into reality.

When did you last upgrade though... and what difference did it make?

What does your audience want from you?

If you could name three things you think you could do to make the lives of your clients and customers even better, what would they be? And what do you need to do to make them happen?

Say them out loud (share them in the comments) I dare you!

Your wish is my command

By pure coincidence, I'm running the same software version as Andrew and, next month, I will be updating to v5.2.

I'm already tinkering under my business hood:

But what else could I be doing to help you write a better business story for yourself? Please do comment below with ideas.
